The Building Trades of Alberta (BTA) officially set up the Foundation in 2001, but our philanthropic efforts date back to at least 1991 when volunteers began raising money for Diabetes research. After formalizing the fundraising activities into a foundation, the BTA expanded our efforts to jobsite raffles. Most of the nearly $6.5 million raised by the Foundation has been raised through raffles, but the Foundation also holds other fundraising events throughout the year. Our annual Memorial Charity Golf Tournament is named in honour of Brother John Tackaberry of the IUPAT Local 177 and he was a Director of the BTA Charitable Foundation.
The John Tackaberry Memorial Golf Tournament would not exist without the efforts and encouragement of our industry family and supporters. So, to everyone who contributes their money, time, and/or effort to help ensure this event is a success and a worthy tribute to John, we say a big THANK YOU.
